What is Rosa Tequila?

What Is Rosa Tequila?
Rosa Tequila, also referred to as Rosa Blanco Tequila, is a Blanco Tequila that has been aged in barrels. Similar to how Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo tequilas are made, Rosa Tequila has a twist: rather than traditional oak barrels, it is aged in ex red wine casks.
Furthermore, there are two types of Rosa Tequila. Rosa Blanco Tequila is aged in red wine barrels for up to 3 months, while Rosado Reposado Tequila is aged in red wine casks for 3–12 months.
What Are the Tasting Notes?
Rosa Tequila has a similar taste profile to its Reposado and Añejo cousins, with notes such as vanilla, oak, and woody spice. However, because the barrels have previously held red wine, you can also expect tasting notes influenced by the wine.
For example, our Don Levi Rosa Tequila has the aforementioned notes, alongside floral accents, red berries, fresh agave and dark chocolate. Rosa Tequilas also have a slightly different hue compared to Reposado and Añejo, depending on the red wine cask used. Our Rosa Tequila, for example, has a beautiful peach-amber hue.
The tasting notes can vary much more between brands compared to Reposado and Añejo tequilas, depending on which red wine cask is used and the influence it has on the spirit. Our Rosa Tequila has been aged in ex-Ruby Port casks.
For example, a Rosa Tequila aged in Sherry casks could develop notes of almonds and dates.
How to Enjoy Rosa Tequila
There are many ways to enjoy Rosa Tequila. Our 100% agave Don Levi Rosa Tequila is a smooth sipping tequila that can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, with mixers such as tonic water, soda or sparkling water, and ginger ale, or in one of our Rosa cocktails!
Fun fact: when enjoying our Rosa Tequila with tonic water, the tonic brings out more of the orange and chocolate notes.
Why Buy Rosa Tequila?
Rosa Tequila is a great gift for a tequila lover who wants to try something new and unique. It is especially suited to those who enjoy Reposado or Añejo, (and even spiced rum, dark rum and whisky fans) as we like to describe Rosa Tequila as a Reposado (Gold) Tequila with a red wine twist.
However, if you or someone you know enjoys classic Blanco Tequila but also likes the sound of Rosa Tequila, we also offer a tequila bundle that gives you the best of both worlds!
